In 2020 The Helsinki based bus operator Helsingin Bussiliikenne used Vibrations to monitor whether the construction of a new tramway was responsible for vibrations affecting the health of their drivers. Sensors were mounted onto the frame and the seats of the driver’s area. Measurements were conducted over a specified series of weeks. Results were analysed and processed automatically before presented onto a live web-based dashboard. In the dashboard the bus operator can easily detect which segments of road generate more vibrations. It turned out driving adjacent to the tramway construction site was likely affecting the bus driver’s health, giving an insight that Helsingin Bussiliikenne could act on. In addition, the anonymised bus driver schedules were assigned onto the dashboard, enabling visualisations of which drivers were driving more aggressively.
